Beauty hacks: How to layer your skincare like a pro
We love a good beauty splurge. Balms, serums, cleansers, elixirs – we want ’em all.
The problem comes in the morning, when, with 10 minutes to go from pink-faced morning mouse to ‘take me seriously’ work face – we get a little overwhelmed.
What does a serum actually do? And do we need it as well as our moisturiser? And is putting three layers on your face before foundation time actually doing more harm than good?
Kelly Lloyd-Sanderson of wellness organisation, Arbonne has some answers. Learn how to layer your skincare with her five-step routine, and give your best-ever face, every day.
‘Cleansing is key to making your skin look its best, so before applying any product, give your face a thorough wash. At night, use a more rigorous cleanser before going to bed, so that all traces of makeup are removed.’
‘Serums have highly concentrated formulas that work deep down within the skin to provide targeted benefits, be it anti-ageing properties, a healthy glow or an improved complexion. Use serum as soon as you’ve dried off post-shower so that the product can really seep into the skin and work its magic. Don’t forget, you only need to use two or three pumps.’
‘Only after your serum has had time to settle in, use your mousturiser. You may wish to use a more generous amount before going to bed so that your skin has time to absorb as much of the product’s benefits as possible. In the daytime, use a moisturiser with an SPF if to shield skin from the sun.’
‘For a truly flawless finish start by using a primer. Then, use a concealer to cover any blemishes. Using a concealer before a full base means you probably won’t need as much foundation, helping you to achieve a more natural look and save on product.’Read more: Cheat your way to perfect skin
‘Finally, a foundation or CC cream can be applied for fuller coverage. Make sure your base contains an SPF, particularly if your moisturiser doesn’t.’
