Here at Healthy, we’ve long been fans of the clean green beauty regime. Now, it seems, everybody’s getting in on the act. You can’t scroll Instagram without a #cleanbeauty treatment gracing your feed, organic beauty sales are spiking, and some of the biggest beauty brands are jumping on the bandwagon.

Recent Mintel research found that more and more of us are choosing products packed with tried-and-trusted natural ingredients – but which ones? We reveal the top five:

1. Vitamin C

With its host of benefits, it no surprise a whopping 85 per cent of consumers are craving more Vit C than their daily orange juice. Known for reviving dull, tired skin, Vitamin C effectively fights free radicals, helps fade pigmented areas and shields skin from the visible effects of pollution. What’s more, it’s one of a small handful of ingredients proven to combat aging, acts as a collagen booster and won’t break the bank. What’s not to love? Try it in a serum, brightening toner, or intensive eye cream.

2. Fruit-based ingredients

Coming in at second place are fruit-based ingredients – no shocker as they’re often packed with the aforementioned Vitamin C, as well as other vitamins and antioxidants. Fruit acids help fade age spots and increase luminosity, and citrus fruits like grapefruit help even skin tone. The soothing powers of cucumbers are well-documented, but they’re also packed with vitamins A and C which help strengthen hair, and blueberries are rich in essential fatty acids to help nourish skin. Meanwhile, ‘super fruit’ pomegranate seed oil helps skin cell regeneration and promotes collagen and elastin production, which is why you often see it used in anti-aging products and eye creams.

3. Oatmeal

Oatmeal has long been a staple of the wholesome breakfast and homemade facemask, but its rich nutritional profile means it’s now making waves in the natural beauty world. Loaded with vitamins, minerals and proteins, the high water uptake in oat roots mean they deliver deep nourishment. Packing a punch in deeply moisturising shampoo and suitable for soothing, all-over cleansing, oatmeal’s restorative properties also make for an excellent hair treatment.

4. Honey

Cleopatra knew what she was doing when she bathed in milk and honey. Help your own gorgeous glow with the antibacterial properties and skin-loving antioxidants found in honey. Give your complexion a boost with a Manuka Honey face mask or make a like an Egyptian goddess with softening Milk & Honey body lotion. For naturally radiant skin try a honey-infused face oil, and give your lips some TLC with a nourishing lip balm that’s good enough to eat.

5. Probiotics

Flagged as one of our top green beauty trends for 2017, probiotics work on your skin as they would in the gut – by upping the number of beneficial bacteria, thus reducing the number of harmful ones. Known to soothe inflammation, probiotics also help with a number of skin complaints such as acne, rosacea and eczema. Embrace good bacteria with a gentle cleansing milk and strengthen the skin’s barrier with a rich renewal cream.
